New Patients

Starting Treatment at Rivia Therapeutics

All new patients begin with an Initial Assessment.

This appointment provides enough time to review your health history, assess your primary concern and begin treatment when appropriate.

Initial Assessments are available for adults, teenagers and children.

Is Rivia Accepting New Patients?

New-patient availability is limited so established patients can continue to access follow-up care within a reasonable amount of time.

All available Initial Assessments are listed through the online booking system at rivia.janeapp.com.

No Initial Assessments Available?

If you cannot find a suitable Initial Assessment online, please add yourself to the waitlist through the online booking system.

The online waitlist is the fastest and most reliable way to be considered for an available appointment. It keeps your request connected to your patient profile and ensures all appointment requests are managed in one place.

When joining the waitlist:

  • Select the appropriate Initial Assessment for your age category

  • Choose the days and times you are available

  • Include a brief note about what you would like assessed

  • Mention if the concern is urgent or time-sensitive

Examples of time-sensitive concerns may include:

  • A recent injury

  • Pregnancy approaching delivery

  • Upcoming surgery

  • Recent surgery

  • A time-sensitive return-to-work or return-to-sport concern

Patients may be contacted based on appointment availability, the date requested and the urgency or nature of the concern.

Joining the waitlist does not guarantee a specific appointment date or time.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Health History and Conversation

Your appointment will begin with a discussion about your current concern, relevant medical history, previous injuries, surgeries and what you would like to improve.

Physical Assessment

Your assessment may include:

  • Observation of posture and movement

  • Active and passive range-of-motion testing

  • Hands-on assessment

  • Orthopedic or functional testing when appropriate

  • Assessment of related areas that may be contributing to your symptoms

  • Gait or movement analysis when relevant

You may be asked to move, change position or expose the area being assessed. Draping and treatment are always adjusted to your comfort.

Treatment

Treatment will usually begin during the Initial Assessment when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

The techniques used will depend on your assessment findings and may include:

  • Manual osteopathic treatment

  • Registered massage therapy when clinically appropriate

  • Joint and soft-tissue techniques

  • Movement-based treatment

  • Scar or fascial work

  • Kinesiology taping
    & More...

Treatment is adapted to the individual rather than following the same routine for every patient.

Massage therapy is not offered as a standalone service. It may be incorporated when it supports the assessment findings and treatment plan.

Recommendations

At the end of the appointment, we will discuss the assessment findings and any practical recommendations.

These may include:

  • Home exercises or mobility work

  • Activity modifications

  • Suggested follow-up timing

  • The most appropriate follow-up appointment length

  • Referral to another healthcare provider when further assessment or treatment is needed

Not every patient requires frequent or ongoing appointments. Recommendations are based on your concern, goals and response to treatment.

Choosing a Follow-Up Appointment

Follow-up appointments are available in short and long formats.

The best option depends on the complexity of the concern, the number of areas being treated and whether additional assessment is needed.

General Follow-Up (~25 mins)

A short follow-up is generally best for established patients with a focused concern, one main treatment area or an existing treatment plan.

A short appointment may be appropriate when:

  • Your symptoms are familiar and relatively unchanged

  • Treatment is focused on one primary area

  • You are continuing an established treatment plan

  • A shorter appointment was recommended at your previous visit

Comprehensive Follow-Up (~50 mins)

A long follow-up provides additional time for assessment and treatment.

A longer appointment may be appropriate when:

  • You have several areas requiring treatment

  • Your symptoms have changed significantly

  • You have developed a new injury or concern

  • Additional reassessment is needed

  • Your concern is more complex

  • A longer appointment was recommended at your previous visit

Your practitioner will usually recommend the most appropriate appointment length following your Initial Assessment.

Online Booking

Online booking requires a credit card to be securely stored through the booking system.

Clinic staff cannot view your complete credit-card information. The card is held to support the clinic’s cancellation and missed-appointment policies.

All appointment availability, online booking and waitlist requests are managed through rivia.janeapp.com.

Cancellation and Late Arrival Policy

Appointments are reserved specifically for you.

At least 24 hours’ notice is required when cancelling or rescheduling an appointment.

A missed appointment or late cancellation may be charged up to the full appointment fee. When possible, the fee may be waived if the appointment can be filled by another patient.

Arriving late may shorten the amount of treatment time available. The full appointment fee still applies.

For shorter appointments, arriving more than 10 minutes late may mean there is not enough time to safely or appropriately complete the appointment.

Please review and accept the complete clinic policies when booking online.
